A-i-R
NEW MOON RISING FUNDRAISER
Please consider donating to NYC's Artist-in-Residency (A-i-R) program in a NATIONAL PARK!
Where will these funds go? A starting budget of $5k is the minimum required to apply for additional public funding through Brooklyn's Cultural Council. Contributions will cover time and materials, transportation, and publicity events. The goal is to develop A-i-R as a sustainable program in service of local artists.
What is an A-i-R? A-i-R programs dedicate time and resources for artists to travel, reflect upon past projects in a new work space, and develop new projects in exchange for community service.
Why develop a new A-i-R in Jamaica Bay? New York City's Jamaica Bay wildlife refuge sits in a National Park along side the T6 and T7 art galleries in Fort Tilden, an area that extends from the boroughs to the Atlantic Ocean. Bus, trains, and bicycle paths allow for public access from Brooklyn and Queens.
How did this project start? After Hurricane Sandy, MoMA asked artists to submit proposals for restoration in Rockaway, a dynamic, mixed-income community of surfers, artists, and naturalists. My proposal - along with an architect, student, and ecologist - proposed a new A-i-R program, the first of its kind for NYC.
