Over een paar weken is het zover, dan vindt de lancering plaats van cultureland: een stichting die creatieve werkperiodes, projecten en activiteiten organiseert op het snijvlak van cultuur en natuur.

We zijn van start gegaan met het cultureland Artist In Residence programma, waarbij kunstenaars de ruimte krijgen met dit thema te werken. De eerste werkperiodes zijn afgerond en we zijn trots op de resultaten.

We nodigen je van harte uit om zondag 8 oktober de lancering van cultureland met ons te komen vieren Je bent van 3 tot 7 welkom om kennis te maken met het programma, de organisatie en met enkele Artist In Residence kunstenaars. Er zal werk te zien zijn, er zijn enkele presentaties, kleine discussies en natuurlijk heerlijke hapjes en drankjes uit stad en land.

Who would have guessed an avocado pit provides a shade of pink?

Sofia van Leeuwen (b. 1981) presents new paintings inspired by the plants and pigments of the Dutch landscape, including those found on the kitchen table. Join her in a conversation about contemporary painting and lasting color. She will share her research and ideas about plant-based color found in the past and present-day Netherlands. 

Van Leeuwen is a Cultureland AiR (Artist-in-Residence), a program inviting artists to develop work around the themes of nature and culture. Her work will be on view in the Cultureland storefront gallery through August 27th.

Wie zou denken dat een avocadopit een roze schaduw achterlaat?

Sofia van Leeuwen (1981) is een kunstenaar uit Californië met Noord-Hollandse roots. Als Cultureland Arist-in-Resident presenteert ze nieuwe schilderijen die geïnspireerd zijn op het landschap, met kleurstoffen uit planten, en ook datgene wat is achtergebleven op de keukentafel. Ze nodigt je uit in dialoog te gaan over hedendaagse schilderkunst en kleur. Ze deelt haar onderzoek en ideeën met je over op planten gebaseerde kleur, gevonden in het Nederland van vroeger en nu.

Perhaps a peal of laughter will unfold. Or a discussion about Bakhtin and carnivalesque misalliance. More importantly, if you have a laugh to share—silly or sinister—please bring it! I will document the sounds of the group (related to laughter) with a tascam audio recorder.

After and for those who feel up for a stroll to the East River Amphitheater, it is a 20 minute walk from the park and an interesting piece of sound architecture.
